Frieren, 3 Body Problem, and Human Progress
Never thought there would be a common theme between the anime "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" and "3 Body Problem"... such optimism about human progress and exponential technological advancement.
AI's compute power is now doubling every 3-4 months, an acceleration faster than anyone could have fathomed. This could lead to the attainment of AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) and ASI (Artificial Super Intelligence) in the not-too-distant future. Coupled with Boston Dynamics demonstrating the agility of its new, somewhat freakish, shape-shifting Atlas robot, the prospect of mass unemployment and the replacement of human labor is no longer a fairy tale.
"What's the meaning of life and existence?" will be the question that remains. To avoid falling into deep despair, we must seek answers in theology and philosophy, cultivating a robust and resilient worldview and a meaningful purpose in life that can endure these existential challenges. Even the principle of meritocracy may become obsolete as we confront the possibility of being outstripped by an artificial super-species in both productivity and efficiency.
We must know our inherent worth and dignity as human beings.
We must teach our children to know their inherent worth and dignity as human beings.
"What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor." (Psalm 8:4-5)
